The 2007 National Spanish Examination will again be given online, between March 1, 2007 to April 15, 2007.

Membership dues are due by November 1, 2006.

Practice exercises will be free using the same password as last year until January 1, 2007. (User name is: practice  Password is: free). After that, the password will change, and only AATSP members who have paid their dues by December 1, 2006 will have access.

The exam is the same as last years except for the Proficiency section which will have fewer questions.

Because of your feedback these changes have been made:

1.      Teachers may proctor their own students

2.      40 minutes per section will be the time limit

3.      Achievement Section – 40 questions, Proficiency Section – 34 questions

4.      NO score will be displayed after the student presses “Submit”

Each section is worth 200 points with a total of 400 points for the entire test.

                         Initial Registration Process from Quia

v     AATSP will e-mail all secondary teachers with the URL (web address) of the

NSE Order Form. Teachers will fill out the order form online and submit it to Quia.

v     When dues are paid, teachers will receive a second e-mail from NSE with a Teacher/Student Registration form. Each teacher will also receive his/her own

Quia username & password.

v     1 week prior to the opening of the test window, each teacher will receive from

Quia all of the usernames and passwords for his/her students.

v     1 week prior to the opening of the test window, NSE will send out to all teachers the “Test Administration Instructions.” Included will be the common errors, and how to avoid them plus the SECRET WORDS necessary to access the exams.

v     Teachers may add or delete students up to the end of February. Please never give the username or password of one student to another student to use. Instead, if a student does not have a username go to your Quia roster, select the correct exam level and add the name, level & category. Be sure to send a check to the local coordinator for students added over your original order. Fee is $5.00.

Test Day Procedure

v     Teachers will have access to a roster of students for each exam level being tested, each student’s username & password plus the list of Secret Words. Usernames will be in 2 places 1) e-mail from Quia 2) On the teacher’s roster. If the teachers can’t find the username he/she can call NSE for help. There will be no spare accounts given out.

If either section of the exam is submitted successfully, the student may not take that section again. If the student invalidates a try, the teacher can add a new attempt with the original username & password. Instructions for the new attempt will be in the e-mail “Test Administration Instructions”.

v     The teacher will control the number of attempts with each student. NSE respects each teacher’s professionalism for setting the number of attempts given to a single student.

v     If technical problems arise, the Quia help line is open from 7 a.m. to 5p.m. PST
